Abstract :
The optical burst switching (OBS) based metro network is proposed to bridge the ´metro gap´ between high performance core and LAN (local area network). Many media access protocols (MAC) have been suggested in literature for OBS based ring networks. This paper proposes a new MAC protocol for wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) based OBS metro ring network. The performance is analyzed through simulations and compared with the similar protocol reported in literature. The results show that the proposed protocol performs better with much simpler wavelength assignment and control mechanisms.
