Abstract
In this paper, firstly, we take a look at the state of theory and applications of the grey systems theory founded by Professor Deng Jit-long in the 1980´s. Then, the scientific background on which the grey systems theory came into being, basic concepts, the main content of the theory are presented. A comparison between the grey systems theory and stochastic analysis and fuzzy mathematics is made. As a new research with strong capabilities to transect across and to permeate into various traditional scientific fields and disciplines, the astonishing progress the grey systems theory has made in the world of learning and its wide range employment in such scientific areas as industry, agriculture, economics, energy, transportation, geography, geology, meteorology, hydraulic power, ecology, environment studies, medicine, education, military science, finance, life sciences et al. is presented. Lastly, the further study advices for grey systems theory is put forward.
