Abstract :
In November 1997, a Benthic Acoustic Stress Sensor (BASS) tripod was deployed in the North Sea in 15 meters of water. The deployment period spanned both calm and storm sea conditions with strong tidal currents. The deployment location was uniform horizontally and the bottom-boundary layer was well mixed in temperature. This paper compares estimates, made from this deployment, of stress from covariance, log-fit, and drag-law. Estimates of turbulent-kinetic-energy production and dissipation were made and compared to a wall-layer model of turbulence. This is a good data set for comparing measured turbulence statistics to unstratified-turbulence models
