Abstract
As more and more applications in the world of computing go mobile, keeping track of mobile users becomes an important and demanding issue. We need an efficient location management scheme that could perform location registration and paging at the minimum possible cost and without loading the network. In this paper, we propose a highly dynamic location management strategy which could reduce the total cost of location management. The existing schemes perform excessive location updates or have large paging areas. Our algorithm reduces the number of location updates by analyzing the mobility profile of the users and dynamically choosing the distance metric scheme, which would best suit them. Call rate is used to fine tune the scheme. The performance of our algorithm is analyzed by comparing it with the existing algorithms
