Abstract
The provision of heat and flame protective clothing for electricians is mandatory in several countries including Sweden, Hungary and the United States. Trade Associations in other countries have made strong recommendations to their members in favour of arc protective personal protective equipment. Where the decision is left to the discretion of individual companies, the European Personal Protective Equipment Directive becomes effective. In this paper the author examines some fundamental issues of arc protective clothing for power system maintenance personnel
