Abstract :
The electromagnetic inverse scattering problem of localizing a planar conducting interface buried in a half-space background medium is dealt with. The illuminating field is provided by plane waves at fixed frequency and varying angle of incidence and the inversion is achieved by means of the truncated singular value decomposition (SVD) of the involved linear operator. Emphasis is put on the derivation of the SVD and on the role played by the reflections occurring between the background interface and the conducting one on the achievable resolution.
