Abstract :
This paper presents the effects of temperature and moisture on the macroscopic physical properties of the bodies of outdoor insulator. An analysis was formulated to predict the effect of microcracks in the matrix material which run through the thickness of a given ply and extend parallel to the fiber direction. However, in this report a summary is given of the effects of temperature and moisture on the engineering properties of materials. In presenting the results emphasis is placed on a close connection between electrical and thermal conductivity which can be exploited to generate expressions for the effective thermal conductivities of a cracked body. Then the cracks may be dry or filled with a material of conductivity different from that of the matrix phase. For the experimental results, they were compared with analytical predictions for dry and filled cracks in some anisotropic manner. At the same time, the planform does not effect the relationship between conductivity and crack density for dry cracks
