Abstract
An open source development project could produce a modern and universally available simulation package for distributed resource, distribution automation, power quality, and electromagnetic transient analysis of electric power distribution systems. One key benefit would be the opportunity to design the software, from the beginning, to work with an international standard object model. A second key benefit would be the provision of portable device models, through use of a standard modeling language. A third key benefit would result from quicker delivery and adoption of advanced models and algorithms
