Abstract :
The purpose of this paper is to introduce a fabrication of a reliable and high performance APD-FET receiver module for high speed optical communication systems. Particular attention is paid to APD chip characteristics, optical path design, and optimization of welding parameters to adapt laser welding technique as an assembly process. The module sensitivity is -32 dBm at a BER of 10-9 with a 2.488 Gbps NRZ 223-1 PRBS. The environmental penalty of the module sensitivity due to temperature variation and 50 km optical fiber dispersion is about 1.5 dB
