Abstract :
Summary form only given, as follows. High-power microwave generation experiments have been performed on the Michigan Electron Long Beam Accelerator (MELBA), with operating parameters 0.5-1.0 MV 1-10 kA, and pulselength up to 2 μs. Megawatt-level microwave radiation has been generated for up to 0.8 μs in the X-band (8-10 GHz) for cyclotron maser modes. Superimposed on the MW radiation are very high spikes (⩾10 MW) of 100-ns duration. High-power (>1 MW), long-pulse radiation has also been generated in the K-band (>14 GHz). Microwave emission characteristics have been investigated with several different cylindrical cavity configurations: unslotted. slotted to suppress non-TE0n, modes. and with and without Bragg resonators
