Abstract :
Smooth and uninterrupted operation in the ship electric power system requires very efficient fault protection schemes for the electrical apparatus and components in the network. Detection and identification of fault therefore become necessary in order to provide protection for the network in events of a fault. This paper presents modeling and detection and identification of arcing fault for the navy IPS system. In this work, single-line-to-ground and 3-phase arcing faults are simulated on the IPS network. This effort is part of the ongoing work in fault detection and location studies in the navy ship to provide adequate control for the overall ship electrical system
