Abstract
The existing base/gate drive suppression methods for the leg of voltage source inverters are those which suppress base/gate drives of either of the two switching devices of the leg by detecting the output current polarity. These methods have the merit that they can drive the leg without dead times. But they have the problem that detecting the output current polarity is not easy. This paper proposes a new base/gate drive suppression method by detecting not the output current polarity but the output voltage polarity. The output voltage waveform is a two-leveled large signal, so that detecting the polarity is very easy
