Abstract
In this paper, we investigate the problem of multi-path traffic routing in optical burst switching (OBS) networks. We propose a traffic splitting algorithm which is based on the gradient projection optimization framework by considering some special features of OBS networks. The main goal of the algorithm is to minimize the overall burst loss in the network by adaptively balancing the burst traffic among multiple paths based on the measurement and analysis of path congestion. Through some theoretical analysis and extensive simulations, we show that the proposed multi-path traffic routing approach achieves significant performance in reducing burst loss and minimizing congestion in the networks. Furthermore, it exhibits good routing stability in adapting to traffic variations in the network
