Abstract :
Under suitable conditions, preventive replacement of components can be beneficial to reducing costly field failures. For a system, it is helpful to rank the components with respect to preventive replacement to prioritise the scheduling of these replacements. In this paper we propose a measure for such a ranking, which will take into account of the component´s reliability importance, the ratio between cost due to failure and cost due to preventive replacement and the reliability deterioration. Weibull distribution is considered for the components and two examples are provided to illustrate the methodology.
