Abstract :
The various aspect of forging die design have been addressed using OPS5, which is a powerful tool in developing knowledge-based expert systems. The basic design procedure and some of the important factors affecting forging die design are explained from the viewpoint of expert-system methodology. The requirements of a good database and heuristic rules which help in reaching an optimal design goal for this particular design problems are discussed. An overview of the use of this system for designing a forging die and constructing forging geometry is provided. Alternative problem-solving strategies for this problem are indicated.<>
