Abstract
Measurements are presented on the performance of a novel dual band passive RFID tag antenna constructed from a planar structure which operates at the frequencies of 868 MHz and 2.4 GHz. A study of the surface current distributions of the antenna has been carried out to achieve the optimal location and coupling of the transponder chip. Results are presented for the surface current distributions, resonant frequencies and read range. Data for the study are calculated using CST microwave studio which applies the finite integral technique on approximated perfect boundaries of the planar structure.
