Abstract
The moment method is applied in the spectral domain to produce a matrix eigenvalue equation for 3D photonic band structures having conductive and dielectric elements. The eigenvalue equation for conductive elements is an electric field integral equation (EFIE), obtained by setting the total tangential field equal to zero on the surface of the element. The equation for dielectric elements is a combined field equation (CFIE) obtained by enforcing continuity of tangential electric and magnetic fields across the surface of the element. Calculated dispersion relations are obtained for several types of conductive and dielectric photonic band structures and measured transmission curves are presented for a wire mesh structure
