Abstract :
A CPW fed planar circular antenna suitable for ultra wideband (UWB) wireless communications is proposed for the first time. The proposed antenna has a wide impedance bandwidth from 2.3 GHz to 15.6 GHz with better than -10 dB return loss. In comparison to existing planar monopole antennas (Ammann, M.J. and Chen, Z.N., IEEE Antenna Propag. Mag., vol.45, no.2, p.146-50, 2003; Liang, J. et al., Electron. Lett., vol.40, no.20, p.1246-47, 2004), the CPW fed antenna has at least 50% more bandwidth and has fewer parasitic effects as there is no need of via holes. Such properties mean that the proposed antenna can be well incorporated with RF/MMIC in ultra wideband applications.
