Abstract :
Effect of antenna selection on channel capacity of MIMO system is studied in both full rank and rank deficient channel based on a modified Water Pouring algorithm. Simulation results show that in rank deficient channel transmit antenna selection will increase channel capacity while in full rank channel it will reduce the channel capacity. Meanwhile practical significance of antenna selection in full rank channel has been carried out. When the number of RF unit is Lt, transmit antennas Nt, Lt ≤ Nt, channel capacity obtained by adopting antenna structure Nt × Nr then selecting Lt transmit antennas will be higher than adopting Lt × Nr antenna structure directly.
