Abstract
Printed surfaces like FSS (frequency selective surfaces) and EBG (electromagnetic band-gap) are normally characterised by their reflection properties. It is common practise to use a plane wave excitation, and compare the phase of the incident and the reflected waves to obtain the phase difference over the frequency. Yet, in most simulation cases only infinite size structures are considered using periodic boundary conditions. In this paper an FDTD-model (finite difference-time domain) is proposed for finite size substrates containing printed EBG cells, using a plane wave excitation.
