Abstract :
This paper contemplates a rational transfer function for approximating the time delay operator. This is intended to provide an alternative for approximate realisation of delay blocks, for instance, in controller and estimator schemes, either in discrete or continuous case. The paper discusses some of the most remarkable properties of the function; its all-pass quality, and the simplicity of its structure, a cascading of first-order blocks.
