Abstract
A description is given of a class of layout assembly tool for automatically constructing process portable N -bus parallel datapaths. Datapath assembly is a special case of place and route. By taking advantage of the modularity and topological regularity in datapaths, the datapath compiler makes a denser layout than standard-cell placement and routing. Using a combination of schematic capture front-end, module generation techniques, and register-transfer-level synthesis, users rapidly design, generate, and verify complex datapaths. The datapath compiler is an open, extensible system that allows user customization
