Abstract
A new ultra-wideband (UWB) transmitter capable of producing multiple monocycle pulses has been developed for UWB radar and communication systems. The developed transmitter is simple, compact and can be realized using planar or uniplanar integrated circuits. Measurement results show multiple monocycle pulses with duration from 0.4-1.2 ns, corresponding approximately to 0.2-3.9 GHz operating frequency range, and 6.5-9 V of peak-to-peak voltage. The calculated and measured pulse durations agree reasonably well. An effective pulse width is introduced, via the pulse´s spectrum analysis, as an accurate parameter for characterizing the range resolution of UWB radar
