Abstract :
With the emergence of Ethernet services based on carrier grade Ethernet as transport technology in metro and backbone networks a new addressing schema is required to achieve a global namespace. As native Ethernet does not provide unique identifiers, which are needed for inter-provider services, we propose a novel naming schema which allows for human readable endpoint identifiers, at the same time avoiding the disclosure of provider internal structures. These addresses are used to establish a connection path suiting the customers´ needs. Additionally we propose security mechanisms to authenticate and authorize peers of Ethernet services.
