Abstract :
In this paper, a novel wideband dielectric resonator antenna (DRA) structure is proposed. A low-profile DR with high permittivity is placed in close proximity to a microstrip-fed inverted-L monopole and there is no ground plane underneath the DR. The inverted-L monopole simultaneously acts as an effective radiator and the feeding structure of the DR. By carefully tuning the position of the resonator, DR can be electromagnetically coupled to the monopole and also works as an efficient radiator. Dual resonances of the two radiators are merged together to achieve a wideband operation
