Abstract :
A neural network decoder designed to provide a constant output of decoded data for long-constraint-length convolutional codes (K⩾11) is presented. With only local connections between neurons and digital EX-OR cells, direct hardware implementation in a VLSI ASIC (application-specific integrated circuit) is feasible. Decoder strategy is discussed along with toggling strategy. Architectural modifications to decode other code rates are also discussed
