Abstract :
A new approach for the characterization of the colon based on a set of quantitative parameters, extracted by fuzzy processing of colon images, to assist the colonoscopist for medical diagnosis is proposed in this paper. These parameters defining the properties of the lumen are useful in the analysis of colon abnormalities and for the assessment of the status of patients. These properties are used as input in a characterization rulebase to formulate a decision as to find out whether the colon lumen of interest belongs to an abnormal or a normal category. Preliminary test results support the feasibility of the proposed approach
