Abstract :
After weathering some trying years, current indications are that the communications industry is starting a firm rebound. Fundamental to this growth is reliable power. Appropriately, the theme for the 2004 INTELEC Conference in Chicago is "Exploring Power - The Foundation For Communications." Realization of the critical importance of reliable power has recently been brought into focus by the massive outage in North Central and Northeastern US, and Southeastern Canada. The fragility of the power system, either from natural causes, system limitations or through the growing threat from terrorism, is now evident to all. INTELEC 2004 in Chicago will explore many aspects of Telecom Power including its vulnerabilities, while offering solutions, and introducing new technologies, as well as describing evolving and alternative power sources. The opportunity to exchange ideas and information with colleagues from around the world is invaluable. In addition to the primary Technical Program of submitted papers, this INTELEC will feature an expansion of the popular tutorial program to aid delegates in supplementing their knowledge of allied areas. For the first time there will be a "Telecom Power 101" primer available to all attendees at no additional cost. This primer will explore the basics of the power architecture and its fundamentals of operation.
