Abstract :
We model the sum of EMI and residual error due to the bandwidth constraint as a random variable and derive an expression for the average probability of the bit error. It is shown that in general it is difficult to obtain a closed form expression for the average probability of the bit error when EMI is modeled as an arbitrary random process. However, by following the approach presented in this paper, it is possible to numerically evaluate the performance of BPSK signalling in the presence of EMI and bandwidth constraints. The optimum receiver incorporates the maximum likelihood sequence estimation technique. The sub-optimum receiver scheme consists of symbol-by-symbol demodulation with zero threshold
