Abstract :
In the report we present the design and test results of the linear transformer driver (LTD) stage that does not need any liquid or compressed gas for insulation inside the cavity and operation of the switches. The only gas, which is used, is air at atmospheric pressure. At peak charge voltage of 85 kV the stage delivers to the matched load of /spl sim/0.15 Ohms the 14 GW power pulse with the rise time of /spl sim/180 ns. The stage is developed to demonstrate the possibility to simplify the LTD technology of the primary energy storages in maintenance and application.
