Abstract :
Most parents are not aware of their children being exposed to potentially dangerous mobile media content. It is clear that the combination of awareness, cost and usability is deterring parents from adequately protecting their children from mobile cyber threats. This paper discusses the issues surrounding parental control in smartphone-related devices. The paper will, firstly, establish the importance of parental control; and it will then outline initial research, which aims at providing possible areas where parental intervention could take place - in the form of parental control that potentially might reduce the risks of adolescent mobile Internet usage in South Africa.
