Abstract
Hemoperfusion and plasmaperfusion are well known as standard procedures in extracorporeal blood purification. To avoid problems such as blood compatibility and to increase efficiency, the Microspheres Based Detoxification System (MDS) has been developed. The newly developed system is based on the high adsorption capacity of microspheres in a recirculation system. A two filter modification of the MDS is used for the removal of low-density lipoproteins (LDL-Apheresis). To perform animal tests under clinical conditions a novel system was designed including control and safety monitoring systems
