Abstract :
This paper has described the development and testing of a real-time alarm handling and fault analysis expert system, which reduces the volume of data presented to a control engineer working on an energy and management system by diagnosing and summarising faults. From the user´s point of view, AHFA made a good start and proved to be extensible to cope with more complex types of fault. AHFA is currently viewed as a necessary component of a proposed higher-level monitoring system for National Control. From the implementor´s point of view AHFA has worked as intended and there is plenty of scope for adding the ability to diagnose further types of situation, including non-fault situations. in the longer term, the best way to integrate AHFA with the control room environment may be via the GOLD database, alongside a number of other specialised and intelligent monitoring functions.
