Abstract
The paper analyzes the conception and the measuring model of operational availability. For the restrictions of present models´ assumptions, an instantaneous operational availability model and an average operational availability model for evaluating material availability together with a simulation method for the two models are put forward. The distinctions between the two models are also given by the simulation example. The analyzing of sensitivity factors shows that material reliability is the key factor affecting the operational availability, and the most effective way to improve operational availability is to increase reliability.
