Abstract :
In this study, an initial concept of the h refinement in the FETD method with the hanging variable technique is presented. With the hanging variable method, intermediate elements are created to connect the refined and non-refined regions. With this approach, remeshing can be avoided and the refined mesh can have the same quality as the initial mesh. The numerical experiment in 2D indicates the initial success of our approach which leads to further study in the three dimensional h refinement for the FETD method with the hanging variable technique
