Abstract :
An application of optical burst switching (OBS) and, particularly, wavelength routed OBS (WROBS) to access networks is presented. A dynamic bandwidth allocation (DBA) distributes the bandwidth resources combining time division multiplexing (TDM) and WROBS. To provide quality of service (QoS) supporting differentiated services, prioritizing classes of service (CoS) is considered to manage the DBA module. Several queuing mechanisms and scheduling disciplines providing QoS guarantees in WROBS access networks are considered: strict priority (SP), modified strict priority (MSP), earliest deadline first (EDF) and modified earliest deadline first (MEDF). Simulations for different traffic distributions have been carried out to evaluate the trade-offs involved in selecting a QoS burst scheduling method
