  • Abstract
A novel dual-band differentially-driven microstrip antenna is proposed for the IEEE 802.11 wireless standard. First, the patch dimensions and the location of feed point determined by the formulas are examined to design the differentially-driven microstrip antenna. It is found that the width of the patch by the formula should be widened to ensure the excitation of the fundamental mode using probe feeds. Second, a novel H-slot is proposed to achieve increased bandwidth and the required two-frequency characteristics. Third, it is optimized by simulation software to get final parameters of the antenna. It shows that the simulation is agreed with 802.11a and 802.11b. As seen from simulate results that differentially-driven antenna in the cross-polarization is much smaller than a single point feed. The antenna also has advantages for radiation pattern and direction of small size.
