Abstract
A novel element antenna for limited scan phased array of LEO satellite is proposed. A flat-topped element pattern is formed by the coupling from slots. With flat-topped element pattern, the gain degradations of the array over the scan volume are improved and grating lobes outside the scan volume are suppressed. The analysis is based on multi-mode scattering matrix method, with which high calculation speed and accuracy can be achieved. The results of calculation and measurement show that this element antenna can be applied for the limited scan array with ±25° scan. The results of calculation also show that the flat-topped element pattern and the reflection coefficient keep well at least in a 10% bandwidth.
