Abstract :
The acetylacetonate of manganese (II) serves as an accelerator for the anhydride curable epoxy resin system. An appreciable lowering in the resin gel time and a substantial increase in the rate of curing is observed with enhanced quantities of the metal chelate. Cure kinetic studies have been followed using a differential scanning calorimeter. The influence of the accelerator on thermal and electrical properties of the cured system has been investigated. The epoxy system cured in the presence of different concentrations of the metal chelate were subjected to electrical stress at 7.0 kilo Volts for over 2800 hours and also aged under severe conditions of humidity and ultraviolet radiation (weatherometer) for more than 2000 hours. The properties of the resultant systems monitored periodically reveal that they are little affected and are comparable to those of the control system
