Abstract
In this letter, we present a high gain dual band patch antenna with metamaterial superstrate. The metamaterial is composed of two layers of cut wire pairs structure. Based on the analysis of the unit cell of the designed antenna, it is found that the two transmission peak frequencies can be utilized to produce high directivity in the patch antenna. The high gain dual band antenna is then fabricated, and the experimental testing results show that this antenna gain is observably improved by 7.5 at 14.15 GHz and 8.2 dB at 15.9 GHz, respectively, in comparison with the same antenna without cut wire pairs superstrate.
