Abstract :
The effect of the anisotropy of the valence band on the gain spectra of quantum wells is studied in the frame of kp-theory and envelope function approximation. In this paper shown that the application of axial approximation leads to understated gain. The maximum errors of gain spectra are located in the same points as peaks of gain spectrum at energy axis. Such errors can amount to 18,8% that makes axial approximation inapplicable
