Abstract :
Boundary Element Method (BEM) is used to study transversely diode pumped Nd:YAG laser that is pumped by three laser diode arrays. At first, energy distribution of the pumping beams is calculated by propagating a Gaussian beam in radial direction inside the rod. Then, by using BEM, stationary heat transfer equation is solved numerically and temperature distribution and refractive index of the laser rod are calculated. Having refractive index of the rod, we solve equation of path of the ray along the laser rod and obtain phase of transmitted beam from the laser rod. The resulting wavefront is fitted with a sphere and equivalent focal distance of the laser rod is calculated by this method. The results are compared with those obtained by Finite Difference Method and good agreements between them are observed
