Abstract
A new broadband annual-ring antenna fed by CPW (coplanar waveguide) is developed for mobile communication applications. The antenna adopts a single-layer double-side configuration. Two annual rings are used to activate the dual operating frequencies. By exciting the resonant modes of the two rings and using the partial notched ground plane, the broadband dual-frequency characteristic is achieved. The two operation bands have 30% (2.8-3.8 GHz) and 20% (8.3-10.1 GHz) bandwidths, which cover S-band and X-band. The antenna has a frequency ratio of 2.8 and a gain of 6 dBi
