Abstract :
Increasing electric power consumption cause transmission lines to beyond their transfer capacities resulting in overloaded lines and congestions. A flexible AC transmission system (FACTS) in a power system improves the stability, reduces total losses and cost of generation and also improves loadability of the system by controlling power flows and bus voltages. The focus in this paper is using static var compensator (SVC) as a shunt reactive power compensator in order to minimize power losses and compensate voltage sags. Optimal reactive power sizing and avoiding compensating unnecessary buses in IEEE 30-bus electrical power system has been obtained by using fuzzy logic (FL) concept in this paper. Transmission line removing, transmission grid extensions, load changes conditions have been simulated in the paper and obtained results prove the robustness and reliability of fuzzy logic algorithm in different conditions of power system.
