Abstract :
We have developed PeerStreaming, an on-demand peer-to-peer (P2P) media streaming solution based on a receiver-driven streaming protocol. Unlike existing client-server based media streaming solution, where all clients go to a single server to retrieve the streaming media, in the PeerStreaming system, the media may be streamed from multiple peers. We use a receiver-driven protocol so that the peers need no collaboration (thus no network traffic) among themselves. Only the receiver (the media playing client) coordinates the streaming among the peers, performs load balancing, handles the online/offline of the peers, and decodes and renders the media
