Abstract
This paper first shows that the standard 1D Yee update equation, in principle, can never produce a perfect plane wave that numerically matches that of higher dimensional grids, except at the major and minor axis propagation angle. Because of simplicity and low memory cost, a multipoint 1D auxiliary grid is developed which is derived directly from the corresponding 2D/3D update equations, which in principle also produces perfect numerical match
