Abstract :
A horizontal LPDA and a mono-cone antenna in HF base station were compounded (use a common tower) to reduce the area requirement. The compound antennas are regarded as a system with radiators and loaded scatters. Method of moment is used to calculate the current distribution. The mutual coupling between two antennas is deduced from the currents on the source segment and the loaded segment. The effects of mutual coupling on radiation pattern and impedance were evaluated too. Simulation results show that the mutual coupling between LPDA and mono-cone antenna is lower than -24dB and the VSWR of both antennas are still lower than 2 within the whole operation band. The radiation patterns of two antennas are slight influenced. The proposed compound antenna provides a new means to reduce the area requirement in HF base-station.
