Abstract :
This paper discusses the major EMI problems identified in an optoelectronic stabilized sight used in a combat vehicle. This paper further deals with a number of spectrum signatures collected in different sights at subsystem level before final EMI hardening techniques were evolved. EMI problems arising out of integrating the sight to other electronic subsystems of the combat tank and hence the EM compatibility aspects of the vehicle were also identified. A total EMC solution was evolved by a series of EMI measurements, analysis and implementing suitable EMI techniques prior to integration in the vehicle. After repeated validations a controlled EM environment in each vehicle was ensured throughout. EMC design modifications were frozen and recommended for the production version of the sight
