Abstract
This paper describes a real-time connection admission control scheme for supporting multiple service categories, including ABR with non-zero MCR, in ATM networks. The scheme is based on two featured technologies. One is a real-time cell-loss ratio evaluation algorithm for VBR. The other is a real-time evaluation of available bandwidth for ABR. The most remarkable characteristics of this control scheme are that it terminates within a few milliseconds and that its time is independent of the number of VCs
