Abstract :
The large scale proliferation of military communication electronics (C-E) in the modern day battlefield led the Department of Electronics to sanction an application oriented EMI/EMC Study Project at the Military College of Telecommunication Engineering (MCTE), Mhow, in January 1980. Accordingly, the first EMI/EMC laboratory in the country was set up at the MCTE and was named the “EMI/EMC Studies Cell”. This project was initially sanctioned for five years. The project was a remarkable success, in that it created for the first time in this country an awareness of the scope and dimension of the EMI problem and provided a launch pad for further work in this field. The study resulted in a number of payoffs at the national level, which are given in the article. The role of the Army Centre For Electromagnetics is to carry out EMC testing of all C-E equipment being introduced in the army to conform compliance to EMC MIL-STDs and also to evolve concepts and precepts on EMI/EMC to ensure EMC in the battlefield
